Go to a minimum of diald 0.16.5 (and there's still a good chance of route
problems). I'd recommend the 0.99.3 build (patched) from
http://diald.sourceforge.net

Welcome to the joys of kernel 2.2 routing. It's made some changes and diald
doesn't always handle it properly.

pppd 1.3.9(8?)+ fun. add 'noauth' to your pppd-options for all outgoing
connections. (In summary, connections made while there is an existing
default route now are brought up expecting remote authentication unless you
explicitly disable it.)
