I have an 'interesting' workaround in my setup that may apply to you.
I am running named, and squid. In my resolv.conf I only list remote name
servers, that is what I want squid to query. However on my clients I give
them the ip of my linux box (running named). This way squid almost always
brings up the link with a name query. Local clients get their named
requests served as well. If named is queryed by another ip app, it brings
up the link. However this event is less likely, and hence the lookup is
usually not cached.
This of course will not be a work around if you do not use squid for the
majority of your traffic.
