Tim,
You may want to look at mgetty or vgetty and use either of those. In
addition to dial in capability, they also give you the abiliity to
receive faxes (mgetty+sendfax) and manage voicemail (vgetty). They also
only lock the device on receiving a call. I add mine into the inittab
after the terminal getty's start up.
