I've just checked 4 of my RH6.0 boxes (including the box
I'm doing the diald stuff on) and none of them have any
file or package name that in whole or part matches "wvdial".

I "unwound" the script that calls pppd and they *definately*
call /usr/sbin/chat, and chat gives no indication of being
anything other that the standard chat I've used in the
past.

Is wvdial supposed to be drop in replacement of chat, or
is it supposed to be a completely different thing?
If it's not a drop in replacement, then we must have
installed our systems differently (I install a basic
set of packages - ie: no X11, no gtk+, window managers,
etc. Some of that stuff might create a dependancy
on wvdial that would cause it to be installed?).

The '~--' '' line I do have. I shall check it!
