I am trying to set up IPMASQ on my Red Hat Linux 6.1 box. I am trying to
surf the web on a Win95 machine using the Linux box as a gateway. I connect
to the Internet through a dial up modem.
I have created a ppp connection through linuxconf and have set up the Win95
client to use my ISPs name servers, and to use my server's IP address as the
gateway. If I bring up the ppp connection manually using /sbin/ifup ppp0
then everything works fine and I can surf away without any problems.
However, I would like the connection to dial out automatically, and drop the
line once I have finished with it. I am trying to do this using DIALD.
I have set up DIALD according to the (complex) instructions, but I don't
seem to be able to get it to work. What happens is:
1. Access a web page on the Win95 box.
2. The SLIP connection grabs the packets and makes the modem dial out.
3. A PPP connection is successfully established (according to
/sbin/ifconfig)
4. BUT, the Win95 machine never gets to the destination web page. It is as
though the SLIP connection is grabbing the packets and keeping them... If I
kill the SLIP connection then the Win95 machine can see the web pages.

I know there is a patch for ppp available from Red Hat but it has been
unavailable for the last few days.
