Hello all,

I have the following problem:

With the switch to the newer diald 0.99, the use of ethertap devices was
introduced. I have ethertap support in my kernel and three tap devices, tap0
tap1 and tap2 installed. Diald seems to be using this device now, something it
before refused to do, but has a problem to connect to the correct device for
calling out using pppd. Previously I used the slip device with local adres
192.168.0.1 and remote adres 192.168.0.2. When traffic was detected it
responded by dailing out using the ttyS0 device as specified in diald.conf.
Somehow this no longer works like this with the tap device installed. It does
detect traffic on this device and then responds with try to connect to device
192.168.0.2, which of course fails with a message that the connection script
failed. So somehow I have to alter the setup not to try to connect to the
remote adres 192.168.0.2, which was needed to set up the sl0 device, but to
try to set up the ppp0 device and call out to the ISP.

Has anyone here had simular problems or is there a working example of a
configuration using ethertap devices or a new HOWTO which reflects this usage?

Is there an archive of this mailing list so I can browse for possible answers
to this question?

Thanks,

Hans Houwaard

P.S. Sorry about not including the options and configuration files. I don't
have them available here.
