Connect Script problems

Does diald expect the connect script to exit.  It seems that the connect
script must exit and return a success.
I was using my own which didn't exit until the connection is brought down.
This doesn't seem to be working.

Also I would like to use the connect script provided but I don't see how I
can pass my chap/pap authentication.
