I did not have any chance to look at one of those boxes (they
don't offer them in Germany yet). So, I cannot comment on any hardware
internals. Maybe somebody from Nokia is lurking on this list and can
give details?

In the end everything will probably depend on the end-user price. Some
articles mentioned a price of under 500 Euro in Germany if they get 
subsidies by companies which would get commercial space on the TV 
application in return.  In Sweden the price turned out to be 750 Euro
with and 1050 Euro without an ISP+pay-TV contract (according to 
an articel on www.ostdev.net).
I'll wait how the price in Germany will really turn out to be.

A lot of developer information is available at www.ostdev.net. 
As far as I understand it, you should be able to download the SDK and 
write your own applications. They also mention that they use X11. So,
I guess existing X11 applications would run.
