I was wondering, too.
cd /usr/src
rm linux
tar -jxf linux-2.4.5.tar.bz2
mv linux linux-2.4.5
ln -s linux-2.4.5 linux
cp linux-2.4.2/.config linux-2.4.5
cd linux
make oldconfig
<little bit of interaction here>
make dep
make clean
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage <wherever>
/sbin/lilo
/sbin/reboot
all in less than 20 minutes .. where is the problem?
