hi all,

now that we have another big application (dtv) besides vdr and
dvdplayer,
we had several calls for one big application integrating them all.
and there are others that want other stuff (mp3, email checking...)
integrated.

why not do it the unix way: separate clearly into frontend/backend.

my idea is to have a
- customizable
- configurable
- scriptable (and so on)
frontend (via osd!?) for user interaction and

lots of small tools for backend operation:
- a recorder for a vpid and several apids
- various players (dvb-a, dvb-v, ac3-a, dxr3-a, dxr3-v ...)
- timers for automated recordings
- (de)muxing tools
- epg-scanners
- program-scanners ...

vdr already separates the various functions into multiple threads
(don't know about dtv).

this way we could
- integrate all thats been seen on this list into one user interface
- keep every single task simple and small
- keep it much more open to "alien" hardware

what do you think?
