Klaus,
Your heroic attempts to force the driver/card to utilise the device's
builtin OSD facility are commendable. However, should you ever tire of
the quest, perhaps you could dispense with it altogether and instead,
shrink the video display area temporarily (maintaining correct aspect
ratio) and write the OSD information in the space that this (temporary)
shrinkage creates. Meanwhile, good luck with the quest!
