Sorry for not giving you the whole story. Currently, (P1-133 machine), using the old (i.e. before NEWSTRUCT) drivers and vdr-1.0.4, I can record a channel on card 2, while playing back a recording on card 1, at < 30-50% CPU.
With the new setup, I can not even record 1 channel without things getting out of hand (i.e. too high CPU usage).

Could you please install oprofile and try to find out where your CPU is spending it's time?So I am looking for the culprit basically :-)
