The RigthWayToDoIt(tm) would be to fix all applications so that they keep the frontend file descriptor opened when they expect data from the frontend device.
Would it be impossible (or stupid) to keep the unit powered on as long as any of the unit's filedescriptors are open (and active). This way one could run `cat /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 ' even if the powermanagement is not disabled.
