Unfortunately, that made no difference. However, adding "noapic" to the lilo command line along with the watchdog option produced a very slow but completely (over 4 hours of TV modules installed and running) machine. I am no running with just the noapic option, and will try to record a film overnight to see what happens. Adding the noapic option was just guessing as a result of total frustration. I have no real idea of what it does, why it might work, or why I should or should not do it!
