As long as it is a "budget" card, the hardware should be able to do it. I
am receiving the Euro1080 test broadcasts with the "Lorenzen DVB-S" card
(which, like the Hauppauge cards, is nothing but a relabeled TechnoTrend
budget card), and the card itself has no problems at all receiving the data
(why should it anyway...).

Top problem (at least on Windows) is: CPU power. It'll require at least a
2.4GHz CPU to decode the HDTV stream in real time, and higher is better.
Note that on Windows I got hardware accelerated MPEG-2 decoding (IDCT and
motion compensation on the GeForce 488 Go and the ATI Radeon 9700), so if
that is not utilized by your Linux driver/software, you'll need even faster
CPUs...

But, as far as the DVB-S receiver card is concerned, that should be ok.
