I have just released the first version of a package that creates DVD subtitles (i.e. a set of PNG files for use with spumux/dvdauthor) from DVB teletext subtitles.
It can be downloaded from http://www.linuxstb.org/dvbtextsubs/
It consists of two separate programs:
1) dvbtextsubs - decode teletext subsitles from either a DVB card or a file, and output an XML representation of those subtitles.
2) xml2spumux - this takes the intermediate XML file and renders PNG files containing the subtitles. It also creates a new XML file that can be used as input to spumux.
It currently only works with "Transport Stream" recordings - for example, those made with dvbstream. If you record DVB teletext in a different file format (how does VDR handle this?), and would like support added to dvbtextsubs, then please let me know - it should be trivial.
This has only been tested with UK subtitles at the moment, so I am sure there will be issues with non-UK character sets. The intermediate XML file (which uses the iso-8859-1 character set) should be correct. The bugs will be in xml2spumux.
Regards,
Dave.
