The pes2vid_es utility extracts just the elementary video streams. mplayer should handle ps streams just fine, which is what ts2ps will give you, so try dropping the pes2vid_es command.

try dropping ts2xxx entirely and use mplayer 1.0pre3: it handles TS just well.
The fewer transformations the better.
