When I see something switching from 24fps to 30fps and back again, that immediately suggests 3:2 pulldown of NTSC video. http://www.zerocut.com/tech/pulldown.html In short, the video player is detecting the 30fps content originally came from a 24fps film source, and is reconstructing and playing the 24fps source. This generally produces a better looking video. For your original problem of losing audio-sync at that point, perhaps there is an option to turn off this pulldown, and force it to stay at 30fps.
