Use the tree that actually includes support for the hvr4000 ;-) http://linuxtv.org/hg/~stoth/multiproto Why would you use Hans' tree for this? The code in ~hverkuil/v4l-dvb2 has nothing to do with your device. Steve Toth's multiproto tree is an experimental development branch that should work for your device.
