For the typical application, the performance gain isn't enough to really be concerned with, however, these are all kernels targetted at a real-time experimentation environment, where a performance gain of even a few percent is significant. In any case, I wrote a script that looks at the cpu flags, and is able to detect the processor class with a fair amount of accuracy. Thanks for all of the help, Larry
