adding a package to initrd

I need to add a package to the initrd for my nfsroot kernel. There is 
this package called brltty that adds itself to the initrd if you set a 
flag in /etc/default/brltty. But it doesn't work with fai 5.0.3. I am 
guessing this is because fai uses dracut instead of initramfs-tools.

Does anybody have basic instructions for adding a package to the initrd 
in the fai nfsroot?
