Hi,
I've been trying to keep in touch with the development releases of
glibc but I've been having problems.
First, a request. It would help a lot if diffs could be posted. My
ISP only allows 2 hours of online time per day and it can take longer
than this to download the whole sources to this half of the world.
Consequently, by the time I manage to download one set of sources the
next version has sometimes been released...
Second, one problem which I've been having for the last few releases
has been with the symbol __nss_db_open. I posted a message about this
on 21 November. I haven't looked into the root cause of the failure
but I get the following when doing 'make check':
/usr/src/lib/glibc/glibc-2.0.107/i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1/posix/globtest: error in
loading shared libraries:
/usr/src/lib/glibc/glibc-2.0.107/i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1/nss/libnss_db.so.2: symbol
__nss_db_open, version GLIBC_2.1 not defined in file libdb.so.3 with link time
reference
The symbol is actually defined but without any version. There
shouldn't be anything funny about my system; I don't specify any
options apart from the standard ones when building glibc and the
system I build glibc on is so far little more than a SuSE 5.3
distribution.
With 2.0.107 I chose to ignore this error and see what would happen if
I installed the libs. After fixing a few problems such as wrong '*/specs'
for egcs-2.91.58 and the configuration of ldconfig, the libs seem to be
working so far...
Cheers,
Bill
