I haven't experienced this, but somewhere I've found
under the gcc directorytree there is a hard to read
configuration file, where such information is stored.

I haven't found any docs about this file yet,  though
I haven't looked out for them carefully enough.

Problem is that you have take care of this file when
installing new gcc releases.
