I'm regularly and routinely building on Solaris (8, 9, 10; various
different environments, etc.), which is notorious for lacking all these
extra goodies (not just SNMP).

Indeed the "try" option added to many of the "--with-XYZ=..." features a
few months ago were an attempt (mostly successful, I believe) to tolerate
lack of such things when not strictly necessary.

So if your system lacks SNMP, and if SNMP is (as I likewise believe)
non-essential, then it should build OK (unless an explicit "--with-XYZ" or
"--enable-PQR" tries to force it on).

Could you let us know your "configure" options and the relevant output
from that configure (or subsequent build-time failures, etc.)?
