Will do - should have some results shortly. In the meantime though, whilst I agree it's a bug that logd fails to shutdown, I do think the product needs to be tolerant of its own bugs where possible; given that it has to survive an unexpected crash of a node anyway, I think it would be OK to use the 'normal' approach of killing the process during shutdown IF the normal shutdown times out (not saying you shouldn't TRY a normal shutdown, just that it should give up after some reasonable timeout.
