Besides, that's not sufficient to know what release you're in fact running. But, the openSUSE 10.2 release is already quite old, and if I assume that the Debian version is 2.0.8 as from upstream, I can only strongly recommend to update to http://software.opensuse.org/download/server:/ha-clustering packages. And if the problem re-occurs, please open a bugzilla and attach logs. Nothing the GUI does should prevent a DC election, basically.
