There's 4 different pinouts for a null modem cable. Here's a good reference to all 4 of them: http://www.lammertbies.nl/comm/info/RS-232_null_modem.html As for the reason behind the use of a full handshaking cable, it allows for the highest speed communication. The drawback of course is that it doesn't support certain connection modes. All is well now though that I found out it was a bad cable job by yours truly. -Andy-
