As already recommended, I would suggest you give iSCSI a try, or alternatively 
if your storage (target) and node (initiator) are on the same Ethernet segment 
you can try ATA over Ethernet or (AoE). I found AoE to be far simpler to use 
than iSCSI and more reliable, this was a couple years ago however and things do 
change. Both iSCSI and AoE have target and initiator software for Linux.
