It is always highly recommended, especially when shared data is
involved, to avoid data corruption.

Yes ... if I remember right the DC has a slightly advantage when it
comes to a "stonith match", I am sure there are some people on the
list to give a more detailed insight into the stonith algorithm ...
but in the end - the winner takes it all ;-)
