This is not a problem, apart from having to maintain two copies
of oracle.

MB : I was thinking more in terms of RMAN and possible Grid Control
integration problems. I'm not too bothered that there will be more than
one set of binaries, it was the different users that concerned me.

Two instances running at the same time? That's also fine.

MB : OK good to hear. I've never done RAC or clusters until now -
learning new stuff everyday! I've been used to the large machines - lots
of instances approach.

Perhaps you'll get better support in some oracle forum. The
cluster has no problem with active/active configurations. Whether
the resource itself (in this case oracle) may work with that is
another question.
