If the version you want is available under the debian backports then no effort should really be involved, just download and role out. If it is not, then down load the latest availble debian source from the current stable release and backport this yourself. This is not so hard to do. If this is something that you're likely to be doing then I can recommend the following book that does a v. good job of explaining the process and plenty of useful and unusual Debian hints and pointers:

The Debian System Concepts and Techniques, Martin F. Krafft, pub: No starch Press
