Never tested it with python < 2.3. But I think so.

Were the RPMs built on the distribution you are using?

I don't think there's any easy way to do this. Besides, it requires

Yes

You still can run the front-end of the GUI on a newer distribution, and
connect to the back-end on the RHEL3, but the both sides should be the
same version.
