True. This is the first time I see this reported. Normally,
realtime is enabled by default and most of platforms do support
it. There should be a warning on heartbeat start if that's not
the case.

There is also an option for heartbeat (-l) and a directive in
ha.cf (realtime) with which realtime may be disabled.
