You want to use Heartbeat without the CRM/Pacemaker? SLES 10 ships with heartbeat 2.1.4, which is only two years old[1], as opposed to the four(?) year old 2.0.5. If you don't have a SLES subscription and/or you're using openSUSE 10.x, I can't really offer any useful advice for obtaining prebuilt packages (software.opensuse.org doesn't seem to go back before openSUSE 11.1). If you're looking to upgrade at some point to SLES 11 and need support from SUSE/Novell, you'll want to switch to Corosync instead of Heartbeat, because Heartbeat doesn't ship on SLES 11.
