You want to use Heartbeat without the CRM/Pacemaker? I am obligated at
this point to mention:

http://theclusterguy.clusterlabs.org/post/178680309/configuring-heartbeat-v1-was-so-simple

Now that that's out of the way... SLES 10 ships with heartbeat 2.1.4,
which is only two years old[1], as opposed to the four(?) year old 2.0.5.

If you don't have a SLES subscription and/or you're using openSUSE 10.x,
I can't really offer any useful advice for obtaining prebuilt packages
(software.opensuse.org doesn't seem to go back before openSUSE 11.1).

If you're looking to upgrade at some point to SLES 11 and need support
from SUSE/Novell, you'll want to switch to Corosync instead of Heartbeat,
because Heartbeat doesn't ship on SLES 11.

HTH,

Tim

[1] Actually, the CRM in Heartbeat on SLES 10 should be pretty close
to what's in Pacemaker 1.0, assuming you have at least SLES 10 SP3
and/or the latest maintenance update. Not sure about SP2 offhand.
