Hi!

Mailman stores the passwords literally, so it you present you the password. So 
use very different passwords for your mailing list subscriptions. I think the 
default is good enough. However (as the original poster found out) those 
passwords are sent unencrypted over the Internet (most parts, I guess). So the 
password is probably more or less public...
