After several attempts I was led to make a compile that solved my
problems. I thought I did not need kiss, as I use single port TNC's
(KPC-2 and KPC-3). It was a mistake and finally I know that KISS is
mandatory for hams wanting to packet with a TNC in kiss mode.

I had started configuring the computer at CO2BQQ as a plain linux
box, so it had a mouse. It has only two com ports, so it is fine with
putting the VHF port to work first. Got it working, so I started
looking for the way of getting rid of the mouse, so I could use COM 1
(cua0) as a radio port. Finally, browsing executables I found
mouseconfig, and disabled the mouse, declaring no mouse. Voila! cua0
is available, so kissattach to it and the TNC transmits !

I begin preparing FBB port.sys for a new TNC and there begins the
trouble. No transmission either from cua0 or cua1, and cua1 was
working before. I have no idea of what caused this mess.

If I start all up, kissattach makes no complains, call seems to
work, says "Trying", but the PTT does not activate. TNC's are in kiss
mode.

Has this happened to someone before ? I have no idea now of where to
look....no warning, no complains, no device busy, no invalid
parameter, and IT DOES NOT WORK. All looks as if it was ready to go.
It does NOT.

Hints and suggestions appreciated.

PS: CO2BQQ is running RedHat 4.2, kernel 2.0.36, ax25-utils-2.1.42 .
