It was asked how AMTOR and PactorI compare in terms of relay
closures. I got out the ARRL Handbook circa 1996 and found that AMTOR
sends 3 characters and then waits a Recieve Window (240 ms) and sends
either the same data again, or if it recieves an ack it sends the next 3
characters. I think a character is 8 bits.

Pactor has 2 data rates of 100 and 200 baud. The data is 10
characters or 24 characters. Under good conditions where 200 baud is
established, to tansmit 100 characters a Pactor transmitter is keyed 4
times if the data is recived.

AMTOR will key 33 times under the same good conditions. So it's
obvious Pactor is easier on the transmitter under good conditions.

Consider horrible conditions. AMTOR will work IF it can get 3
characters acked once in a while. Pactor must get 10 plus a header and crc
acked and that may not work. There will be some point at which Proctor
will give up while AMTOR continues to work although very slowly.

In summary your transmit relay will like Pactor...:-)
