Hi,

I know these are not really radio related, but I thought I'd ask here
first.

The first problem is my in.timed demon from RedHat 5.2 distribution CD
doesn't seem to work correctly. When I run the command:

        netdate gb7lgs.demon.co.uk

on another (also RedHat 5.2) machine on my LAN I either get a message that
a UDP connection could not be established or I get a totally wrong date
(Feb 7 2036).

The log files on the 'server' (/var/log/secure) show a series of lines
like:

Dec 19 23:00:01 gb7lgs in.timed[5350]: connect from <hostname>
Dec 19 23:00:02 gb7lgs in.timed[5351]: connect from <hostname>
Dec 19 23:00:03 gb7lgs in.timed[5352]: connect from <hostname>

I'm using netdate-1.16-2 from Demon's mirror of contrib.redhat.com and
intimed-1.10-7 from the RedHat 5.2 CD.

Using the same version of netdate to query my ISP's (Demon) Time servers
seems to work fine, so it seems to be in.timed thats broken, but even
compiling a new one from the source on my RedHat CD didn't help.

(Neither contrib.redhat.com or the Demon mirror appear to have any version
of intimed in either source or binary forms).

My second problem is that ppp-2.3.5-1 from RedHat 5.2 distribution doesn't
seem to be calling my /etc/ppp/ip-up or /etc/ppp/ip-down scripts when the
PPP link comes up or goes down. (so the system doesn't send outgoing MAIL
/ NEWS items without manual intervention).

Anyone else had eiher of these problems and fixed them ?
