kernel 2.0.36 compilation.

I am using slackware linux installation and had compiled before
kernel 2.0.35 with no problems.

Now, I downloaded linux-2.0.36.tar.gz from sunsite.unc.edu
to upgrade to kernel 2.0.36 but I get the message below
at the make zImage step. 

init/main.c: In function `get_options':
init/main.c:259: warning: subscript has type `char'
make: *** [init/main.o] Error 1

Can someone help me to figure out what is wrong?
