OK this is pretty desperate, but hams usually know oddball info when
no-one else does.
I have a beautiful Seagate Barracuda scsi drive just begging to be
dropped in a machine and used for Linux/ham radio. Its an ST 12550 ND
and its in the current Seagate catalog and literature, which I have
downloaded. Note the ND (narrow differential) suffix ..... But how do
I use it ?? Who does controller cards for these beasts ??
I tried the local packet network for help. No replies at all.
I phoned Seagate's helpdesk in UK. They cheerfully referred me to the
Seagate literature (which I had already). I phoned around firms who do
scsi controller card - no dice, only total confusion.
I the took the phone bill by the throat and phoned the Seagate scsi
helpdesk in California. The best the man there could do was choke up,
and then deny that a "Seagate Barracuda ST 12550-ND" drive was
actually a Seagate product.
(I was tempted to ask why it was in the company catalog and
literature, but I gave up at that point. I was clearly talking to
the Seagate helpdesk - NOT. Maybe it was a bad scsi day).
I also tried various computer firms, no dice. I even tried the
drive with a new NCR-based PCI card that drives other scsi devices OK.
Of course it does not work.
Maybe you know the answer, or can point me to someone who does ?
Thanks for wasting time reading this when you could be getting ready
to celebrate the New Year
