Hi Jocke.
This is problem of Microsoft, which makes his own standards all the time.
We in Czech Republic have about 5 character coding tables. One is original
ISO-9660-2. This character set is generaly used in unix environments.
Table of brothers Kameniks was the first for PC environment. Then Microsoft
created PC-Latin-2 (why the hell they did not use ISO?). Microsoft then
continued with next two windows character sets diffrent from any set before.
I know also one old character set named KOI-8 (i thing) used espetially in
Russia. So we have 5 character sets and at least 3 of them are actively used
on packet radio.
Petr ok2pid created his own PR terminal called xpr. It works in X Window
environment and uses ax25 in kernel. It is prepared to use different conding
tables. It has its own translation tables, You can switch keymaps and display
tables during the connection and so on. Look at http://www.qsl.net/ok2pid
Another possibility is to install console fonts and keymaps of the most widely
used character set (probably some MS "standard").
Good luck and lot of thanks to Bill Gates for this mess.
