When I upgrade my Linux computer to a higher end AMD-K6-233 computer in the
near future, I will have USB support available to me. I have been fighting a
running battle trying to devise a means of acquiring enough serial ports for
all of the TNC's, modem, mouse, etc, but have failed miserably. With USB
support available, I believe, at least conceptually, that I should be able to
acquire an 8 port USB hub, and then bring each of the ports out as serial
ports with USB to SERIAL ADAPTORS.... thus solving my shortage of serial
ports. Has anyone ever successfully done this? Does Linux support USB? Are
there drivers and instructions available? It sounds too good to be true. It
is hoped that I can expand the serial ports via USB to fulfill my
requirements, as outlined above.... otherwise I will have to order an 8 port
shared-interrupt high-speed serial board such as the VScom-800, which is the
least desirable option.... What can you tell me? Thanks in advance.
