Hi again all, things are starting to work out here. Still working with the RedHat 2.2.5-15 kernel (packaged with the RH 6.0 bundle). I recompiled the kernel including the DMA high speed driver (in the Amateur Radio Support) and both ports of the PackeTwin card are seen as network interfaces dmascc0 and dmascc1 in the interrupt mode. I then found and applied the ax25-utils-2.1.42a-6.i386.rpm (found at ftp.ucsd.edu /hamradio/packet/tcpip/incoming/) and massaged the files to represent my configuration. yahoooo, node, pms, ax25spawn is all working! For testing purposes I have a Kantronics Data Engine (ports ax0 and ax1 for a 1200 and 9600bd packet that uses the mkiss config.) and the Paccomm PackTwin interface card with interrupt 2/9 and IO 230 (dmascc0 PortA is serial async rs-232 and dmascc1 PortB is serial sync rs-422 [driving the grapes 56k modem]). What I don't see is the sym links(or files) under the /usr/local/ sub-dirs. Each of the sub-dirs is created i.e. /usr/local/etc, bin ... but nothing is in them? By not running the traditional ax25-utils-2.1.42a install, and using the rpm, did I miss out installing required files or sym links to these directories? Now for the dmascc_cfg challenge. I downloaded the dmascc_cfg-0_7_tar.gz file and expanded them in the /utils/dmascc dir. I did the 'make dmascc-cfg' and received the response "dmascc_cfg up todate". Then ran 'make install' I received the msg " install -m 755 /usr/local/bin'. Then I ran the 'make clean' and it removed the dmascc_cfg file that came with the suite. Looks good right? Now for the test, I ran the following command from the /sbin dir: 'dmascc_cfg dmascc1 --show' (I wanted to see the configuration of the rs-422 port before I changed anything). I get an message stating that /bin is a directory and the application hangs. (cntl-c) to get back to the prompt. Hmmm, maybe I have a bad dmascc_cfg file? Going back to the original dir /utils/dmascc I then tried to remake the file dmascc_cfg from scratch within the directory containing dmascc_cfg.c, Makefile and readme. Running the make I see the gcc statement taking off but get some error messages: dmascc_cfg.c:265: unterminated character constant dmascc_cfg.c:266: unterminated character constant dmascc_cfg.c:267: unterminated character constant dmascc_cfg.c:268: unterminated character constant dmascc_cfg.c:271: could not find scc.h make: ***[dmascc_cfg] ERROR 1 Going to lines 265-268 in the dmascc_cfg looked like echoed text statements about PI and PackeTwin card. The scc.h file does exit at a couple of locations. Where did I mess up? I don't want to bother Mr. Kudielka any more than necessary and was hoping someone else has this configuration running and point me in the correct direction. Step by step, 73 John AA6QN
