Karl et al,

I don't use AX25 on Linux often but thought I would test out all the
latest tools to see how they are. I removed my ax25-utils package,
then I downloaded and installed ax25-tools, ax25-apps, and libax25,
using the Debian packages. Craig specifically mentions in the READMEs
that he used glibc 2.1 and kernel 2.2.x (both of which are also found on
RH 6) to build the packages.

Once I remembered how to get KISS mode running on my TNC :-) I
kissattached the port, set an IP address, then made a call and everything
worked fine.

Give up on the ax25-utils-2.1.42a, the new tools are especially designed
for glibc2.1/linux 2.2. Download those and compile them. Or use alien
on the Debian packages.

The only problem I had was that the current packages do not provide
example configuration files in /etc/ax25; fortunately the old ones from
ax25-utils work just fine.
