I really hate to bring this up, but...
I'm putting the absolute final, finishing touches on my TCP/IP book, which
TAPR will be publishing this fall. It includes what I hope is a
comprehensive guide to configuring Linux AX.25, and I'm trying to make sure
that the information is as current as possible -- it was written around
the 2.0.35 kernel and utils 2.1.42.
I really, really, want to have information about using kernel versions
2.2.x, and I've been following the discussion here in the hopes of figuring
out what to say in the book.
However, at this point I'm thoroughly confused.
I would really appreciate it if one or more of the developers who have
definitive knowledge about what kernel, library, and ax-utils versions are
required for a working 2.2.x setup would contact me privately. I want
to wrestle this to the ground and provide a "definitive" (ha!) set of
instructions on how to get things working. To make things more interesting,
I'd also like to look a few months into the future since the target
publication date is October -- it would be nice to have the best guess
of what, if anything, will change in this stew by then.
I would rather stay away from RedHat versus Debian type issues -- I think it
would be more useful to understand the package-level dependencies; knowing
that, someone can figure out (actually, I'll tell them how) to check their
system for the proper versions.
I'll be very thankful for any info you can provide, and if desired, I'll
summarize back to the list.
