Many thanks to all, I'm overwhelmed by the amount of help. Give me a few
years and I'll be able to work out how to list a directory!!

I'll try a 'make bzImage' (instead of make zImage), and then look seriously
at using modules as there is still a fair bit more I need to get this thing
working properly.
