Your insight on noise and nonlinearity caught my attention. I have written a
link budget fora University of Colorado satellite to be launched some time next
year, and I have assumed AGWN and linearity.
The setup is for GMSK (G3RUH) modulation @ 9600 bps, and I will be using an
Icom 821H transceiver.
I am wondering if you are familiar with how nonlinearities an non-white noise
on Eb/No or BER. I suppose I could ask Icom about this, but they wouldn't even
tell me the noise figure of a preamp that I purchased!

You are assuming an AWGN channel model. With amateur FM transceivers,
this model is very inaccurate. First, there is quite severe nonlinear
distortion in the modulator, second, the noise after the FM
demodulator is not gaussian.
