Try to use the modem in DOS. If it works it means you have the same
problem as I did. Probably the baycom driver for Linux is incompatible
with your serial port UART. I had the same problem on my Pentiums.
You have two options:
1st: Install the new 2.2.13 kernel;
2nd: Buy the YAM modem kit and then you can use it at 1200, 2400, 4800
or 9600.
I have opted by the two options at the same time. :-)
