I received an email from a rep of SeaLevel regarding their serial sync
interface cards. The following conversation may be of intrest to the
masses.

John,
I have spoken with our programming team and learned that the Linux
kernel
2.2.12 and above has built-in support for our 4021 card. I have asked
our
Linux programmers to dive into the details and expect to have further
details available for you within the next day or so.

Since recompiling the Linux kernel is a standard operating procedure for

adding any but the most common hardware to a Linux system, we would
suggest
that you take a look at the Linux Kernel HOWTO document at the following

location. You may already be familiar with it, but I know very little
about
your application or your Linux experience due to our limited
conversations.
(http://www.metalab.unc.edu/mdw/HOWTO/Kernel-HOWTO.html). If the user
does a "make menuconfig" instead of the normal "make config", he will
get a much
easier-to-use interface for building his new kernel. Within menuconfig,
our
card is listed under "Network Device Support -> WAN Support -> Sealevel
Systems 4021" Our Programming team will be looking specifically at the
HDLC
issue. There is an HDLC line discipline module available which might be

useful to us if layered atop the 4021 driver module. We will be
experimenting with all of that starting tomorrow, and will be sure to
let
you know of our results.

Is there a specific protocol that you are wanting to implement? i.e.
HDLC/SDLC, monosync, bisync, etc.? Can you give me some details on your
application needs?
Thank you for your interest in Sealevel Systems.
Sincerely,
Dave Pratt
