Allthough I can agree here, reality shows that there are modems too "dumb"
for that feature. It will need at least a minimum of "intelligence" to
achieve what you want. And that means more hardware around the modem circuit,
one thing that many people want to avoid because recent computers seem to
have enough power to do almost everything in software.
